Jamies English homework......

Jamie has had to write a poem about England... she's in year 7 and came home asking me to help her... do you help or do you try to guide? I find it so difficult to not get involved with anything creative and poetry is in my book painting with words... I think she gets what I am trying to tell her and I hope the teacher likes her piece of artwork... I tried to keep my ideas out of it but I love anything creative... so here it is ... be kind! lol

if its a little small you can click on it to enlarge it... had to save it as a picture.. blogger was messing me about something silly!

Hope you liked it...
I tried to get her to think each stanza in seasons so it gave it the idea of the varied seasons we get here in England...

its almost 10 o'clock and I have to admit it was quite good fun spending some quality time with Jamie... some of the verse suggestions even got a little rude... but I blame that on the pimms!

take care
Alex

Please tell Jamie it's a beautiful poem, well done to her.

I tend to help with homework. It's mainly just B at the moment, he is nearly 8 and in year two. M is in the reception class. They both have reading. M needs watching over and helping sound out the words, but B usually sits on the sofa and reads while I listen. I can spot words he reads wrong as he goes.... He is very advanced for his age, he is already on Stage 10 reading.

Homework wise he gets these English booklets (read the story, and answer the questions) or Maths booklets once a week, at the weekend. I tend to help him by watching over him as he answers the questions, and stuff like that. Sometimes it's hard, especially the maths 'showing out how you worked out the answer' because of course, how I was taught was different! Yikes.

The poem is fantastic! Jamie should be very proud of herself. I often help with homework if needs be!

The poem really does describe England perfectly. Jamie deserves top marks for that.

I always helped my boys with homework when they asked but i always found it difficult finding that balance between guiding them and just giving them the answers.

When i was at school (in my teens) if i needed to write a poem i would phone my Gran and she would write them for me. I got really good marks for them too so i would phone my Gran and tell her her grade!

A lovely poem, she does deserve top marks. As regards homework l always try to steer them in the right direction,as mine have got older it has been harder to help everything changes but the answer is always somewhere its just as case of finding it.

Oh what, is it ok? I say it is wonderful! I love it. I used to help too, and I must admit if it was one of my subjects.. english or art, I wanted to do it completely, and had to really control myself and try to let them do most of it! I used to find myself getting so into it , that I forgot it was their job! And had to step back and let them. Also Its like you regress a bit and feel that old feeling of how it was too.
Isnt it lovely when you have these close and precious times! I love the poem, it captures the essence beautifully. Suzie xxx

Thank you all for your kind words, Jamie handed the poem in yesterday but it was change over day so she didn't see the teacher as she was helping to show next years intake around the school and look after them... she loves a little responsibility... I wonder who she gets that from! lol

Just popped back to answer your question... My stable door is wooden. I love it, and you are right it is getting harder to leave as we get the house nicer and nicer! I do actually wonder what Mr. Owl tree thinks! Oh dear, what does that say about me... barking mad I think! Ha ha ha! Suzie xxxxx

the poem is wonderful - it truly deserves a gold star!
I do get involved in homework, but sometimes it's difficult helping and not giving them the answers!

What a beautiful poem! Well done Jamie! My Will is in yr 7 too and he only asks for help occasionally. I used to get much more involved in his homework at primary school but once he started secondary I made a very concious decision to step back a bit and just offer some guidance rather than taking over. Once or twice though, I have had to say "you can't hand that in!!!"
