He can watch star wars without a problem... but Garfield gives him nightmares!

These two have caused me no end of trouble.....
Danny watches Garfield every now and again and due to the fact that Garfield loves lasagna or as Danny calls it "basana" he has deemed it worthy for him to eat too!

now during one episode of Garfield the bloke (can't remember his name!) takes Garfield and Odie fishing and they both end up underwater in bubbles of air blown for them by a spiky looking fish.....

Now the villain of the piece is a shark and since watching this episode Danny has suffered from dreams about a shark getting him.....

Way to go Garfield!

so after a few nights of trying to tell him that he was perfectly safe and him not believing me I decided it was time to make him a dream catcher......

When Jamie was about he same age she started suffering dreams and I made a very basic dream catcher, and it did the job wonderfully.... and as the thought of the protection that it rendered her wained and the odd little dream slipped in we would take it outside and flick it around as it was obviously full and needed emptying and then it would be hung once again in her window to catch the dreams as they tried to float into her room....

So yesterday afternoon I grabbed an embroidery ring and using the inside ring I started to weave some blue yarn I had handy and ended up with my interpretation of a dream catcher.....

I remember about 8 years ago watching a couple of girls in the craft tent I was helping to run at Glastonbury Festival and we were making very basic dream catchers using Scrapstore stock and they made real dream catchers, I was fascinated to see them weaving away and I could vaguely remember what they did so I dredged my memory for the techniques required... isn't it amazing what your memory holds....

I started at the top and then worked it in a spiral... I should have perhaps woven each round and knotted it off so that the pattern was complete but maybe the next one will be better....

I should have added beads but the beads I have are not that large for threading onto yarn so I will add some sparkle at a later date... and it still needs some tails with perhaps feathers or beads.....

It was hung in Danny's window last night and he slept through with no problems...
so hopefully the dreams will be stuck in the web for a while...

Hope you are all keeping safe and warm
take care
Alex

Aww, sorry to hear about the bad dreams. I hope the Dream Catcher works....which is a great job, by the way.

I remember when I was little, about 4 I think, I had nightmares after watching Super Ted. In this particular episode, him and his long tall friend (forgot his name) took part in a magic show, which resulted in this friend (Spotty?) being 'sawn' in half....and so that was my nightmare! Eeek.

Sending you lots of hugs x

That is lovely. Twiglet can't watch many things as he says they are too scarey, Cars for example. He then watched the Chronicles of Narnia at Christmas and said it was great ????

You did a great job Alex, poor little baby, I feel his pain...Garfield is pretty scary. lol!!! I love dreamcatchers and yours is lovely. I am part Cherokee Indian and had a lovely dream catcher in my room when I was a little girl.
Big hugs to you ♥ Teresa

My daughter has always had very vivid dreams, and when she was your son's age I too gave her a dream catcher. It did seem to help! Thanks for your nice words. As you can see, I don't coordinate the whole house, but do have a color theme for each room.

Hi again, oh bless I hope the bad dreams fade soon, it is horrid when that happens. Yes we do have rather thick walls, I think that is why our house is soooo cold!!!! xx

Wow Alex, your dream catcher is fabulous! I did the same thing for Joe, using a plain willow hoop and some embroidery thread criss-crossed around it, but it is the most pathetic looking thing ever! (although Joe was happy with it ) - yours is about a BILLION times better than mine! I wonder if you would consider making a similar one for me - maybe we could do a little swap?

I need to make myself one of those. I dreamed recently that my (departed) ex-husband was trying to get me. It really had me working up a sweat in my sleep.

That's so cool that it really helped your little fellow. You were clever for thinking of it.

I never knew what a dreamcatcher was, actually never even heard of one until my son made a little one in elementary school. I went to hang it in his room and he almost freaked out. For some reason it scared him. I don't know what the teacher must have said about it 'cause he didn't want to talk about it!! You just reminded me of that episode. I should ask him about it now....he's 23 years old. See if he remembers.

I'm laughing about the garfield thing it reminds me of the time when mother in law bought river a talking barney for his birthday, the poor boy screamed and cryed he was truly scared of the thing, we had to get rid of it hehehe.
