All a dither....

Lets get into this post gently....
especially as this weekend has been the dirtiest weekend that I can remember in a very long time... its has its high points and a few lows and yesterday I realized that in general men... well my man at least, requires guidance and to be told what the end result will be... and also to be re-assured that these problems that he sees are minimal and almost a figment of his imagination....

I think I mentioned previously that we could hear a leak in out teeny tiny hole of a bathroom but we could not find the leak..... so on Friday late afternoon, we set about gutting our bathroom... its a downstairs bathroom straight off the kitchen... and its horrid!

So I set about clearing out the accumulated bottles and toys that a family of 4 apparently cant live without... binned a load and stored away the rest for when the bathroom might actually be functional again.... (the children have at this point been dropped around to my mum and dads!)

Our house had an outside toilet, we still have the little building that the toilet use to be in, however it is bog-less.. lol ... so with this in mind the toilet in our bathroom will remain ... to be honest its newer than the bath and sink (which I believe are original!) the toilet was built onto the back of the house under a little sloping asbestos roof... which also requires replacing... *sigh*

Saturday witnessed more destruction and tile popping fun... the cast iron bath filled up quickly and I quietly stressed about the picnic we were attending at Stourhead that evening... no food organised and the bathroom and kitchen slowly filling up with dust and rubble.... *double sigh!*

However.... we managed to get cleaned up (cold hose showers in the garden! lol) and a picnic was quickly put together and we set off at 6:30 to pick up our good friends who were joining us for the evening... we took chairs this year and had an amazing time...

The evening was completed with Fireworks and its was a superb event.....

Sunday... (after a slow start due to a mystery headache! must have been something I ate! lol) we cracked on with the bathroom.... I worked all week clearing off the plaster, while Les was at work.
I feel I should mention at this point that we bought a shower and sink on friday afternoon... we were informed at the time that the items would take 3-4 weeks to be delivered!

But as it was half price and also had a further 15% off we decided to go ahead and order it... this is a 1200mm shower... I ordered the 1000mm one as our bathroom is a little less that 1400mm wide!

We also ordered a sink with storage...
As it turns out the shower and sink are being delivered tomorrow.... Arrggghh! I have absolutely no clue where I will put it when it arrives... they'll have to leave it on the driveway.... its a moulded stone shower base and I am not sure how we'll manage to move it but if we managed to lift the cast bath out in one piece then fingers crossed we can get it in with out damage to it or ourselves! ;D

This weekend we started discussing design... I love tongue and groove... and i'd love it in here... however its a small spaces and battening and cladding the lower portion of the walls would make it a little smaller... and I (in the interest of keeping it simple and going with the flow!) dropped my insistence of wanting it my way... thinking that if we just get the whole room plastered it would make life easier... however this actually sent Mr P into a spiraling free fall as I had dropped the reins and was not pushing the project forward... this suprised me!

after all this man is really clever, he designs electrical and mechanical aspects of helicopter production, he can tell you what part of a helicopter it is just by looking at a cad design image... he can real off part numbers for bolts and washers that quite frankly all look the same! however he could not cope with being in sole charge of designing a bathroom....

Yesterday I picked up the reins again...... I chose wall colouring, taps, worked out wall finishes and quelled his panic over how to run plumbing and electrics and how the effect that we were going to have was exactly as I wanted it to be...

who would have thought that our first week of a bathroom refit would have been full of so many highs and lows...

Today.... I need to track down a plasterer and perhaps a roofer/builder....

to be honest I'd rather sit and chill out.... lol

Time to hit the yellow pages and find myself a tradesman! ;D

take care
Alex

Wow that's a lot in one week.
It looks like your getting somewhere though and I'm sure between your design and his skills you will end up witha fantastic bathroom. You could then just live in the back end of your house or I you planning on getting him to do the living room whilst he's on a role hee hee.
Oh I know a really good builder hee hee x
Best of luck to you.

Hi Alex!
Been there, got the tee-shirt ;o)
You CAN clad your bathroow without the need for battening, just no-nails the cladding to the walls, saving at least an inch of space on each wall...a perfactly acceptable method.
Love the new shower unit and sink - it'll be worth all that dust, dirt, swearing and hard work in the end :o)
Happy new bathroom!

I have rung a plasterer that we use to live next door to... and I await his return call... if I don't hear from him this evening I shall start ringing unknowns from the yellow pages...
I am considering your approach to the T & G issue and I am sure this would be more than adequate for our littlest room... however living with an engineer who tends to over engineer it may be something I have to do during the day by myself! lol cant wait to start painting ! bought a lovely vintage dusty forget me not blue! ;D
