being needed....

makes me happy...

I know my children need me and I dare say Les needs me but this old gent down the road has nobody else.... I am so pleased with his visible improvement over this last week.. he's had a hot meal every day and I pop in before I drop Daniel into school to make sure he's all sorted for the day ahead. Yes, no doubt he is exaggerating the aches and pains as he doesn't want to be on his own with no one caring about him again, however I enjoy a bit of banter and a chat in the mornings... and as I am cooking a meal for my 3 each evening adding one more grateful mouth doesn't really make much of a difference.

The old boy is getting up and around and making a real effort to clean up and do some chores, and he's not so wobbly on his feet and seems a little more chirpy and cheerful... before he looked tired and close to tears, almost like he was wondering what the point of it all was.

Don't get me wrong, I do love to help and support people but I know 6 months down the line this might get a little tedious... but to be honest as I pointed out to my mum today (who's the same age as this gent!) I have grown up in a home where she was always caring for relatives, friends and acquaintances... its something I feel comfortable doing but I have no intention of mixing his care with my own family life... the two things are very separate things... my mum and dad are no spring chickens, but with my brother living at home still they have someone to care for and about them on a day to day basis....

So I shall take each day as it comes and paddle my little heart out as I crest each wave and enjoy the wind in my hair as I ride high... and then start paddling again towards the next peak of happiness and joy... the dips and troughs have to be endured to make the highs all so much more enjoyable... lol

So a chicken casserole sits bubbling in the slow cooker and par boiled potatoes are about to be put in the oven for roasting... a few peas and a yorkshire pudding and one grateful smile as I tap on his door and he pulls himself straight in his chair...

So if you are returning home from a crappy day at work and your good lady or man has placed your tea on the table... smile, say thank you and be grateful... don't be as crappy to him or her as your boss has been to you... be better than that and appreciate and be grateful...

xx take care
Alex

Hello Alex, As someone who spends a lot of time with aged lovelies(MUm lives with me at 90) I used to have hours to spare and would pop in and see someone who was lovely, your company is far better than any medacine anyone could give theis lovely old chap,it may get tedious but you will be there for the long haul, and although at times you may think it is a chore you will always walk away grateful that you put yourself out and made someone feel very special.I think you are wonderful, I just wish more people would look outside their walls and find a little lonely someone and brighten up their day.Bless.
