TLBG Wednesday

I have decided that we throw away far too many plastic milk bottles...
so I am returning to the old fashioned glass milk bottle that will be re-used
you can order all your milk online, and they even tell you your milkman's name...
You give them you card details and they invoice you once a month and take the payment from your account 3 days later....
I will give it a go and see how it works out financially, plus they do all manner of food items

I realise that we will end up drinking less milk, and perhaps we all need to cut back on our excessive consumption and enjoy eating and drinking less....

savour our meals and eat healthily is something that I am aiming for in this household

gotta go, its unusual for me to keep it short and sweet!
but I have an appointment with the accountant! ouch!

x Alex

Good for you! I've also changed how we buy our milk but we've gone for bags (glass bottles are dearer and we need to keep an eye on those pennies!). I've just posted about it on TLBG. I'll be interested to see how it works out for you though. Thanks again for joining in!

Mmmmm that has got me thinking. Perhaps I should change to getting the milk delivered. Will certainly look at the website. Thank you for letting us know about it x

I changed to milk delivery from Riverford for the same reason - their milk is the only one that doesn't bring my daughter out in a itchy rash and it comes in waxed paper cartons which make fantastic fire starters! It is delivered once a week, I put half in the fridge and half in the freezer to be defrosted as needed.

I love your idea, it makes sense to keep using the glass bottles, but I have yet to find a milk man around us who provides organic milk, so i'm afraid I have to buy the cartons. I drink organic because I have had breast cancer and the Organic does not have hormones in it ( I don't do hormones anymore!) Good Idea though. Thanks for following my blog too!!

Hi Alex. Great post. Glass milk bottles seem the best option these days. x

We always used to have our milk delivered when I was a child, I think everyone did, but that has fizzled out in recent times, so I think it is great that you are continueing this tradition. I like to buy my milk in glass bottles from the supermarket when I can, they make lovely vases, very old fashioned looking. xxxxx

I always think that there is nothing nicer than having milk form the milkman to your door. We started it again a few months ago and wouldn't go back to buying it from the supermarkets.
We did still get it in plastic bottle but have now asked for only glass because even though we where recycling them all you just never know do you if they really do get to the right place and turned back into something useful.
Well done you honey.
Thanks for the comment on my post, i know what you mean about flaming landlords but fingers crossed when she goes in, she'll just be as happy as the letting agents where to see how clean and fresh we'd left it.
Have a lovely weekend.
Hugs,

Hi Alex
Pleased to hear you are keeping the milkman employed! We've been having milkman milk for a couple of years and we love the fact that the milk is there in the morning waiting for us! And, as you say, being able to wash and return the bottles helps to make us feel 'that little bit greener' too. Good luck with the accountant!

Ooh! Just read some of the other comments - so in case it helps anyone, we get our organic milk from the milk and more milkman which you mentioned in the post - it is wonderful organic milk!

I tried that but unfortunately our local milkman does not sell goat's milk which is what our household has to have for allergy reasons. I would prefer to support local milkman than the supermarket but no choice unfortunately! Good for you though, it would be nice if more could do that.
Take care

Ha! That's the way I grew up. I remember that grey milk box in the front of the house and how milk would magically appear there. Those were the days.
