T.L.B.G Wednesday

We have been asked to write about and share ideas and thoughts on green cleaning....

To be honest this is my weakest area as I don't really buy green products, so I have been researching what I could do to be greener....

First I thought I would have a look and see what Mrs Beeton had to say about the subject...

(Considering she died when she was 28 she seems to know an awful lot about running a Victorian house)

1,112 pages of fascinating information about everything and anything to do with running a Victorian house, and over 900 pages of recipes

but I am unsure of the modern validity of some of the ingredients so I sought a more up to date information and popped over to visit Rhonda Jeans blog Down---to---earth

now this lady has an amazing list of home made cleaning products that I will be giving a go...

Now I know that I am really naughty for not being greener in my cleaning products and I know its something I need to rectify but I am starting out on this road to kinder living and I hope you can forgive me for my lack of effort...

Sorry for the simple post but to be honest I am shattered, the 50 mile a day school runs are taking their toll, but fingers crossed a place may be available on the school bus after all... and Danny (in his mad dash to get the best bike, at pre-school) tripped and smacked his head into the concrete path, resulting in a trip to the doctors... he's seems fine though and I did put a plaster on the cuts as the oozing clear scabby stuff coming out was very gory looking...

I am posting the giveaway parcels tomorrow
and I have just taken delivery of my October Crochet World magazine so a happy evening will be had by me...
fingers crossed!

Take care
Alex

I deffinately have room for improvement myself but to get you started i'd suggest simply using water, an E-cloth and elbow grease! No chemicals needed for most household cleaning.

Hello Alex

I am always insterested in green and natural alternatives to cleaning products available in supermarkets. I use white vinegar quite a bit, bicarbonate of soda, vodka, essential oils and other things. It's fun to make things with them.
That books looks so interesting, I'd love to try and get hold of a copy! I bet I would learn a few things!
Good luck with your quest for using more natural products.

The book was my Auntie Penny's mums book... now Auntie Penny was an Aunt in name only... one of those friends of the family that you call Auntie... so I am unsure as to the age of the book but it must be really old as Auntie Penny died many years ago and at a good age...

thanks for the info guys

Hello Alex!
Blige, I am amazed you even have energy to consider green issues when you are driving 50 miles each day and now Danny has had a disagreement with the concrete!!! Very happy to hear that you have a lovely new crochet magazine to take your mind off it all.
Take care of yourself dear One, and I have all fingers and toes crossed for a place on the school bus....
Big Hugs coming your way

Oh my. I'm ging to have to dig around online translation. I'm not quite sure what a "plaster" is. I'm thinking it means a bandaid or bandage, but my original thought was that it was a plaster cast.

Love the household management book.

So much is available in the lotions and potions cleaning part of the supermarkets these days, Ecover, Anthony Worrell Thompson as well as their own brands, I love the Co-ops Fabric 'green' softener for example And AWT's Kitchen de-greaser is v effective. I use it everywhere in the bathroom too. Then there are the delights to be found in the larder cupboards at home. Salt Baking soda and vineger makes brilliant plughole cleaner/unblocker. And lemon for everywhere from the inside of the microwave to the dishwasher and the bath.
The 'How Clean is your House' programme often use 'old fashioned' methods.
Great post
